myFM News presents ‘Ask a Cop’.
Listeners submitted questions for Halton Regional Police Service Constable Ryan Anderson. A resident asked about what happens to the items seized in a bust. This likely stems from a record bust (Project LYNX) that was reported last week regarding roughly $2.5 million in items being seized.
Constable Anderson explains what will happen with those items.
He adds that money seized in a bust is different. It goes through a long process that ends in it being allocated by the provincial government. The money is then distributed that way, but it does not go directly back to the Halton Police.
Constable Anderson says that money falls under the ‘seized property’ label, which could also include any other assets seized in a bust. That could range anywhere from lottery tickets to a house.
Another question asked this week also revolves around ‘Project LYNX’. The listener wanted to know how investigators come up with the names for their investigations. Constable Anderson says the investigators come up with the names themselves. While meteorologists follow an alphabetical list when naming hurricanes, police investigators don’t use any formula when labelling investigations, but they do try to be appropriate with the name.
Constable Anderson adds that when he spoke with the investigators who worked on Project LYNX, he wasn’t able to get where exactly the name came from. He says they did joke that “all of the good names were already taken.”
