Halton Healthcare received a visit from Retired General Rick Hillier in March.
He served as the Chair of the Ontario Government’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force before stepping down and being replaced by Ornge head Homer Tien. Hillier stopped by Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital recently and thanked the staff for the hard work they’re putting in.
The President & CEO at Halton Healthcare, Denise Hardenne, says it was great to see Hillier before he stepped away from his role.
“We were delighted to welcome retired General Hillier in one of his last official visits to vaccine centres across the province before he stepped down from his post. While he was at OTMH we took the opportunity to also show the general our unique internal field hospital which has played such a critical role in our pandemic response.”
In a short inspirational video message directed to Halton Healthcare staff, physicians and volunteers, he says “the role that you play during the battle against COVID-19 is the defining moment of your life and will impact hundreds and thousands of people and if you look up the word ‘hero’ in the dictionary you will find your picture right next to it.”
Halton Healthcare says OTMH is currently distributing more than 1,000 vaccine doses a day, with Hardenne adding that “More than 44,000 doses have been administered at the OTMH centre to date.”
