The Region has reported the 200th death from COVID-19 in Halton.
The death is a Halton Hills resident, giving the town 56 deaths. Oakville remains at 59 deaths, Burlington at 49, and Milton at 36 deaths.
Across the Region, there are 49 new cases. The total number of cases is up to 10,253. With 9760 resolved cases and 200 deaths, Halton is now at 293 active cases – 8 more than Thursday’s count. The Region says that of the 10,253 total cases, 9922 were confirmed positive while 331 were considered probable cases.
In Milton, we have 13 new cases. That brings us to 3227 total cases. With 3116 resolved cases and 36 deaths, Milton is now at 75 active cases – four more than Thursday’s number. The Region says that of the 3227 total cases, 3117 were confirmed positive while 110 were considered probable cases.
The Halton Region is also detailing the number of COVID-19 variant cases. It says that 299 total variant cases have been found in Halton: 275 were screen positive and 24 were confirmed variants of concern. Milton has reportedly had 78 total variant cases: 67 were screened positive while 11 were confirmed variants of concern.
The outbreak at Maplehurst is reportedly still open. On Monday, January 18th, the Halton Region reported an outbreak at what is classified as ‘Congregate Living – 37’. It’s believed that this is the Correctional Facility, which was reportedly experiencing an outbreak at the same time of the same magnitude. As of the time of writing, there have been 303 total cases reported during this outbreak. 192 have been residents, 13 have been staff members, and 98 are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases. A death that was previously attributed to the outbreak was recently removed from the stats.
The Halton Region is also noting vaccination numbers. The numbers are updated weekly, with the most recent being on Friday, March 19th. A total of 51,954 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Halton:
- 32,529 have been administered through the Halton Healthcare COVID-19 Vaccination Centre;
- 12,473 have been administered through the Halton Region Public Health and Paramedic Mobile Teams;
- 6,952 have been administered through the newly launched COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
