So far, Milton residents on well water aren’t liking the idea of possibly moving to lake water.
The Halton Region is looking at ways to handle its expected growth, especially here in Milton. The Region is looking to be home to more than one million residents by 2051. That will require changes to the water system in certain local areas.
The Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 1, Colin Best, says that the residents he’s spoken with want to stay on well water.
Good news for them: staying on the well water is an option.
There are three options that Regional Staff are eyeballing at the moment. Councillor Best breaks down those options.
There is a fear that the potential Campbellville Quarry could affect this outcome. ACTION Milton has been fighting the quarry for a while now, and one of the group’s major issues is that the constant blasting that the quarry would bring would affect the well system’s aquifers. Councillor Best says that while Campbellville is on its own municipal water system, that system flows into the Kelso wells. If what ACTION Milton fears actually happens, then a lot of residents would be without drinkable water.
A decision won’t be made on this anytime soon. A public meeting is expected for sometime in the second quarter of 2022, while nothing will officially be implemented until 2025.
ACTION Milton will have a public meeting on Thursday, February 25th. Milton Ward 1 Councillors Colin Best and Kristina Tesser Derksen are expected to be a part of it in some capacity. If you’d like to take part, RSVP here.
You can take part in a survey being offered by ACTION Milton. It regards the proposed Environmental Assessment of the Campbellville quarry. The results will be presented at Thursday’s meeting. Click here to fill out the survey.
