A Milton resident is making her television debut on ‘The Great Canadian Baking Show’.
Raufikat Oyawoye-Salami is currently working as an IT Support Engineer. She was supposed to be a contestant on the show in an earlier season. Unfortunately, her baby’s due date coincided with filming and she had to be replaced. She’s happy that she made it back onto the show.
The Great Canadian Baking Show is CBC’s homegrown take on the UK’s phenomenal hit format ‘The Great British Bake Off’. The CBC show brings together ten amateur bakers from across the country to compete in a series of themed culinary challenges that celebrate their diverse backgrounds, families and communities.
Oyawoye-Salami says it was so exciting to make it back onto the show. She and her sisters are big fans and it meant a lot to her for the show to give her a second chance with her son now being over a year old.
When it comes to these kinds of contested reality TV shows, fan favourites always pop up. Milton residents are going to love cheering for their hometown hero as the mother of two provides the kind of humility that you can’t fake. When she’s not baking elaborate birthday cakes for the kids, you’ll find her reading a book or researching her next bake. Born in Nigeria, she learned how to bake with her mother. Over time, the little skill that she developed with her mom turned into a lifelong hobby.
The whole aura of the show is what attracted her as a fan. She loves the spirit and the overall welcomeness that is brought by everyone involved. Now, having been on-set and experienced it first-hand, that love has only grown stronger.
