The Halton Police is reporting that a Milton boy is dead after falling through the ice at a Milton storm management pond near Reece Court.
The reports says that two boys went onto thin ice at roughly 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Both boys fell through the water. One boy managed to pull himself out. He ran to a nearby residence and called for help.
Police, Milton Fire, Halton Police Marine Unit and Halton Paramedics responded to the scene and immediately began a search of the pond. After roughly 15 minutes, the missing boy was found and rushed to the Milton District Hospital in life threatening condition.
The child’s identity is being withheld for privacy reasons on the family’s part. Investigators from the One District Criminal Investigation Bureau will continue to investigate the occurrence.
The following is a note from the Halton Police:
“The Halton Regional Police Service reminds our community that local bodies of water are very dangerous at this early stage of winter. Any ice formed is still not stable or dense enough to support weight. Please remind your children to stay clear of ponds and other bodies of water without an adult present and if you’re unsure about ice surfaces then stay safe and just stay off icy surfaces.”
