Short term rentals are back in the line of fire for Milton’s Town Council.
Councillors passed a motion for Town Staff to look into regulating short term rental companies like Airbnb. The motion had been originally brought forward by Town Councillor for Ward 2, John Challinor, at the previous meeting. myFM spoke with Challinor in detail last month about the notice.
Now, a month later, Challinor says they’ve received a lot of complaints about these ‘party houses’.
Audio PlayerTown Staff will now research what other municipalities have put in-place to mandate and regulate short term rentals. Once the best practices are written up, the bylaws will be put back in front of Council for approval.
Councillor Challinor says the Town would be working to establish “what it means to be a good neighbour in our community” with the short term rental companies. He says people looking to rent out their properties as a short term rental would take on more responsibility in the transaction, with bylaw officers also being given more tools to address these issues.
He says he’s not against companies like ‘Airbnb’, he just feels there needs to be more order to help control the situations better.
Audio PlayermyFM News will update you once Town Staff proposes their potential bylaws for short term rentals.
