Milton’s Town Council approves of some new street names.
At last night’s Town Council meeting, 19 names were on the agenda to be added to Milton’s ‘Street Name Bank’. The list of newly approved names includes historical and commemorative names, as well as names of soldiers on Milton’s Cenotaphs.
There were also eight names that were not recommended by Town Staff for several reasons. The bulk being that there were already streets in Milton with those particular names (Williamson, Sim, Rayner, etc.).
Regional Councillor for Ward 4, Zeeshan Hamid, spoke on the street name bank. He says that it was brought up that there should be a web page dedicated to explaining why Milton’s streets are named what they are.
He says the Milton Historical Society has done a similar project with Milton’s oldest and most prominent streets, but feels there could be more value and longevity if it were, say, a web page on Milton.ca that covered all street names.
You can check out the list of the new names here.
The approved names will be submitted to the Milton ‘Street Name Bank’ and may be attached to a local road in the future. It’s possible that some conflicts may occur when it is time to name the street. The Town says in the report “approved street names by Council may be subject to further review by our emergency service partners, as there is often a time lapse between Council approval and street name assignment.”
