Milton residents that workout at the local LA Fitness are aware of the spike in people showing up to the gym.
When the Ford Government announced that three Regions (Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa) would revert back to Stage 2, that meant that gyms and fitness centers in those areas would close. Those wanting to still workout in a gym began travelling to other areas, with Milton being one of the closest to Peel and Toronto.
LA Fitness sent out a statement saying they weren’t going to allow that to continue.
“LA Fitness has already frozen the membership status for all members with a home club located in these Higher Transmission Areas. This means you will not be billed during the time of this closure, your membership is inactive and you should not be using LA Fitness clubs,” the statement read.
“To be clear,” it continued. “If you reside in a ‘hot spot’ region, we must ask that you not travel to visit LA Fitness clubs in regions outside your own during the temporary closure. Let’s all work together to promote health and safety during this public health crisis.”
The gym already limits the amount of people allowed to enter the facility. Those that don’t make the cut have to either wait outside or choose to leave.
One gym goer told myFM News that they witnessed a few people show up on Thursday morning that weren’t allowed to enter the gym because of their registered address. It’s a move designed to help flatten the curve of the second wave.
