The Hike for Hospice is on a roll.
The Townsend Smith Foundation event is this weekend. It had to make the transition to being a virtual event this year due to COVID-19. You can read more about that decision here.
Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation Director of Development, Kate Holmes, says the Hike has surpassed expectations.
Holmes adds that what the numbers are showing them at the Foundation is that the community is working really hard to ensure that enough funding is raised to eventually bring a hospice to North Halton. She feels people are really understanding the value and importance of having a hospice in the area.
The top fundraiser this year has been Victoria Hughes. At the time of writing, she has raised $5,950 herself. She shares why she got involved with the Hike.
She started to get involved with the Townsend Smith Foundation more often and began finding little ways to help benefit the organization through the community.
It hasn’t been too difficult for Hughes to receive donations during the pandemic. She says she was a little worried heading into the process, but quickly saw that people knew the value in a local hospice.
Hughes says she’ll be taking part in the Hike by going for a run in her neighbourhood. Her strategy is to put on her favourite podcast and trek through more than 5km.
There is no update on when a hospice will be moving into development in North Halton. Holmes says they have some great stuff in the works, and asks the community to continue being patient.
The Hike for Hospice is taking place Saturday, September 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m..
It’s a virtual event this year, so make sure to join in on the fun online. Follow Townsend Smith’s social media pages here:
