At their recent meeting, Milton’s Town Council unanimously supported a motion to ask the government to make an announcement regarding the environmental assessment on the proposed Campbellville Quarry.
They also have supported an amendment that will allow residents the opportunity to send their own technical opinions the Joint Agency Review Team (JART).
This motion confirms the public engagement that is taking place between Town staff and the public.
In the report prepared by Town staff, there is mention that the review has been granted an extra six months, which alleviates some stress residents were feeling about the original August 2nd date.
The Town Councillor for Ward 1, Kristina Tesser Derksen, says, in some ways, that the review extension is a double-edged sword.
During their meeting, the question came up of whether or not rezoning the area in question would be possible.
Councillor Tesser Derksen says at this time, Town staff and the Town’s Solicitor General feel that it is not the best way forward.
She explains.
While Councillor Tesser Derksen feels that there will not be a motion brought forward, the conversation is ongoing.
She says now they wait for the JART final review and report.
Councillor Tesser Derksen says that while the update report may cause more questions for residents, that is a good thing as that will continue to spark already ongoing conversations.
