Canada Day this year will be going virtual because of COVID-19.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t participate and show some Canadian pride.
Carly Anderson is the Manager of Cultural Services with the Town of Milton.
She says you’ll be able to listen to the National Anthem on Canada Day.
Anderson adds that the turn-around to go from physical to virtual celebrations was pretty smooth thanks to some of the Town’s partners.
If you are going out, Anderson gave some tips on what you should do.
This online experience will run all day on July 1 and will be hosted on the Town’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. The virtual event includes online activities, local games and contests, surprise guests, and performances by local artists.
“While we can’t safely gather in-person this year for Canada Day, we can still celebrate our country as a community and remain connected online,” says Milton Mayor Gord Krantz.
A few highlights of this year’s celebration include:
- ‘Anthem Sing-a-long’ – Residents are encouraged to tune into 101.3 myFM (your favourite radio station) at 11:00 a.m. and join neighbors to sing our national anthem in unity;
- ‘Photo Contest’ – Submit photos in four uniquely Canadian-themed categories;
- Celebration Kit from the Government of Canada featuring creative and educational activities for the whole family;
- A photo scavenger hunt, and Milton trivia presented by the Downtown BIA;
- Performances from local entertainers;
- Residents are invited to share how they are celebrating by tagging the Town on social media and using the hashtag #CanadaDay.
