Milton Town Council has passed a motion to hold virtual statutory public meetings that will allow residents to participate in conversations about land use planning.
This motion allowed council to continue fulfilling requirements to hold public consultations while Town meetings have to be held virtually.
Regional Councillor for Ward 4, Zeeshan Hamid, thinks they will have to evaluate how they will move forward with public meetings as we enter our new normal.
Councillor Hamid hopes that they will be back to their normal council setting in September.
He says they will have to explore their options once we enter stage three of reopening and council will be back in Chamber.
He says the conversations about how they will hold all their meetings will continue once we’ve made the progression to stage three.
Hamid adds they will discuss if there will be a virtual component going forward or if they will get rid of being virtual completely.
Councillor Hamid explains that provincial changes to the municipal act allowed for councils to have that virtual component in their meeting it was just the pandemic that caused us locally to change that by-law.
He explains that this amendment allows residents more opportunity adding that it is an improvement and doesn’t see it going away beyond COVID-19.
This amendment also applies to other committee meetings.
