It’s been over a month since the pandemic struck causing a period of uncertainty that currently has no end date.
The Town of Milton has taken measures to try to help residents such as deferring
property tax payments until June.
Town Councillor for Ward John Challinor shares his thoughts on the deferral.
He hasn’t dealt with too many complaints regarding the pandemic. He says most of his calls have been from commercial landlords.
He adds that some commercial landlords who are running into issues have had to apply to defer their property tax.
He says at this point it’s too soon to have an idea of how much an impact COVID-19 has had on commercial landlords.
Councillor Challinor says when walking around his Ward that he has seen compliance; people are practicing physical distancing.
He encourages residents to do their best to go about their business while paying attention to what is being asked of them by all levels of government.
He hopes that when the outbreak has passed that the Town, Province and the Country will evaluate how the situation was handled and consider how they will plan for the future.
