It’s National Advance Care Planning Day and you’re being asked to think about your future health care needs with those you expect will be looking after you.
Lisa McMurter is an Outreach Coordinator.
McMurter recommends starting the process today if you haven’t already. Make time to speak with relatives or those who you want to look after you when the time comes.
She says its crucial to recognize the need for advocacy of advance care planning, especially in the context of the current COVID-19 outbreak.
McMurter says having the discussion isn’t always easy. If you need some help to begin the conversation, visit the “Speak Up Canada” initiative online.
There you will find information, tools, and prompts to assist you with planning and starting these conversations.
As a way to get started you’re encouraged to make time tonight to speak with your family, friends and loved ones about your values, wishes and what is most important to you.
