Action Milton held an information session about interim control and air quality by-laws and gave concerned residents the chance to hear from those affected by the passing of the Hidden Quarry application.
Action Milton Chair, George Minakakis, says that we should be approaching the severity of the environmental and health issues the proposed quarry could cause the same way we approach coronavirus prevention.
Minakakis says the goal for the evening was to see politicians take on leadership in the roles they were voted into, as well as to take accountability and responsibility in implementing an interim control by laws and air quality bylaws.
He says that it is their job to speak up for the community and we’ve reached a point where all the meetings in the world won’t make a difference unless they get an interim control bylaw in place.
Residents also got the chance to address their concerns.
Mayor Gordon Krantz, Regional Councillor for Ward 1, Colin Best, Town Councillor for Ward 1, Kristina Tesser Derksen, and representatives from MPP Parm Gill and MP Adam van Koeverden’s office were in attendance.
Regional Councillor for Ward 3 Mike Cluett, understands people are disappointed by the approval of the Hidden Quarry application.
Meanwhile, Executive Vice President of James Dick Construction Limited, Gregory Sweetnam, says there are some benefits to the quarry.
Sweetnam says where the Campbellville Quarry is located is zoned to permit a quarry.
Adding that he believes it is a blessing that the quarry has a zoning by-law allowing for quarry operations without the need for a planning application.
James Dick Constructed Limited say they are proud of the work they’ve done and are hopeful that their application will go through.
