The Town of Milton proclaimed February as Black History Month.
A proclamation was made by Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz at Milton’s Town Hall earlier this week.
It’s the first time that Milton has recognized February as Black History Month.
Resident Adejisola Atiba helped organize the event that led to the proclamation.
She talks about what the proclamation means to her.
Atiba adds the turnaround was quick once she expressed her thoughts to local MP Adam van Koeverden about celebrating Black History Month.
She says within two weeks it was backed by the Town and local councillors.
She says local delegates showed their true selves in helping with the proclamation.
Black History Month began in 1970 with roots dating back to 1926.
It became official in Canada in 1995.
