Milton’s Town council has voted in favour of having retail cannabis stores in Town.
Council voted to opt out in December of last year.
Regional Councillor Mike Cluett says the concept has become a hot button topic.
Cluett talks about one of the biggest concerns he had.
Retail cannabis stores are allowed to be within 750 metres of areas of concern such as schools and daycares.
Regional Councillor Mike Cluett says this was a concern for him when they opted out in December 2018.
He reflects on the hope that opting in brings since the province has not changed distance allowances.
Cluett says his mind has been put a little bit more at ease knowing that license applicants will be mindful of where they are putting their stores.
Now staff will be notifying the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario of their choice to opt in.
